Sturgeons are known as living fossils, having been swimming around since the Late Cretaceous Period with very little physical change. They just know what works best for them.

Sturgeons are also quite long-lived fish, with their natural lifespans being 50-60 years old! There are sturgeon out there older than you and me. How wonderful!

What also sets sturgeon apart is their complete lack of scales! Instead, their skin is smooth and features rows of diamond shaped, bony plated armor called "scutes". If you go to a sturgeon touch tank, they swim up to you and you can pet them very gently. Its amazing!
